What Would You Have in Your Airship?

Restoration Hardware is one of my favorite sights to browse and get ideas.

A friend sent me a link to this chair. It's called The Aviator and I love it.

I can totally picture this in a cool bar or lounge. At $1195 on sale (regularily $1495) I don't imagine two of these coming home with me any time soon.

C and I are contemplating trying to make something ourselves.

Amazing Rehabed Building!

An article from the New York Times has me dreaming of finding a great old building I can make my own.

It has taken a total of $250,000 of the owners money to purchase and partially refurbish this old building in Selma. When can I move in?

Steampunk Motivation

A few months ago our friend Tony (aka Shamus Tinplate), who makes the BEST Steampunk Rayguns got a bunch of us together to do a photo shoot. Below is C modeling one of the groovy rayguns.

The motivational poster is not part of the photo shoot but something C made up himself last night.

Steamrats in the Japanese Garden

Yesterday the Steamrats went to the Japanese Gardens at the Seattle Arboretum. It's an annual meeting and picnic.

Here is Kate in all her steaminess.

The hubs and Gary showing off uses for Firehouse Mustache Wax.

Now I am inspired to make a few more steamy accoutrements for my outfit!

Small Accomplishments, Mini Quiche & Roller Derby

What do they all have in common? Not really sure but it's what has been going on in my world lately.

Last weekend the hubs got the rest of our baseboard molding installed in our living room. We still have to patch the holes and paint but all base and crown molding is now installed in the main part of the house (kitchen, living, hallway & dining). We technically still have to install moldings around the bedroom and bathroom doors (three of them) but narrower molding so I am calling this step in the project done!

Last night I made mini quiches with red bell pepper, mushroom, bacon and cheese. I did them in muffin tins. I was NOT pleased with how they turned out. Too small and even though it was cooked through it was too watery. I even cooked the veggies BEFORE I put them in the egg mixture.

The egg mixture probably needs to be increased in order to make enough fuller mini quiches for breakfast for the hubs and I each morning. That is a lot of eggs! I have not figured out the calories yet. Anyone have helpful tips on mini quiches?

Last Saturday the hubs and I went to Roller Derby for the first time. It was a friends birthday and she saved three of the front rows for us all to hang together. That night we even set an attendance record! It took me a while to get the general idea of the rules and I still don't understand everything but it was fun. The medics only had to be called out once and a girl ended up on crutches.
The local league is the Rat City Roller Girls. There are four teams; Derby Liberation Front, Grave Danger, Sockit Wenches & Throttle Rockets. They have the GREATEST names like Yoko Onoudi'nt, Georgia O'Grief, X-Khan & Betty Ford Galaxy.

Oh yeah, and their "cheerleaders" and fans take things seriously! Below Skeletora or Countes De Bodies - not really certain.

A huge Grave Danger fan. He was VERY in to it.

My SD and her friend with a member of the Throttle Rockets.

Her friend (in the hat) is in Jr. Roller Derby. I think my favorite was the Sockit Wenches. Probably because I liked their uniforms the best and they kicked some serious but in their match.

Steamrats in Georgetown

Sunday we met up with a bunch of the Steamrats for a photo shoot to imortalize one of the rats rayguns he makes. The Georgetown area of south Seattle is old and has great atmosphere. The Rainier Brewing company got its start here.

Here is the hubs with one of the rayguns. I don't know the official name of said blaster. Could it possibly be a custom pneumatic aether rifle?

Darwin's Angels?

Fresh off the boat and ready for action!

Our friend makes rayguns out of junk he finds at the thrift store. We had a great time running around Geargetown taking photos.

Polyvore

For all you creative types out there I have re discovered a fun way to create colages for fashion and decorating. Click on over to Polyvore and create something of your own (please note the photo below is not my own creation).

The great thing about Polyvore is you can be directed to sites for the items in the photos and buy them yourselves. Don't you hate it when you see something on TV or in a movie or in a magazine and want to know where to get it and can't find it? It's also a great way to discover new products and designers. I love the boots in the photo above and now know where to get them. They are not available at the moment but I will keep looking!
I have been surfing the net in the wee hours of the morning trying to find inspiration for a Steampunk outfit for myself. Tomorrow is the second of two photo shoots with my Steampunk group the Seattle Steamrats. I had intended to make an outfit but I ran out of time due to lots of hours at work in the last two weeks and other factors.

I honestly want to participate and am determined to go out today in search of a few acoutrements to get a passable outfit by tomorrow. I might have to borrow my husbands Rocketeer style leather jacket. If need be I have pants and shoes that can be worn "in a pinch" so its really all about the acoutrements.

The hubs went to the Goodwill a few weeks ago and found this GRAT lamp part that I want incorporated in to a raygun. Wish me luck!

Obsession of the Week - Dreadlocks

Last September the hubs, our neighbor and I went to see 9 with my local Steampunk group. Having just joined and not owning any Steamy clothing or our own we still went to the movie with the group. While in line I saw a gal who was definitely more Punk than Steam with her hair in two messy buns worn high on her head. Her hair was in black and blue dreadlocks and it looked awesome!

I love the Victorian era clothing that Steampunk is all about but I really want a few things to make my look a little more Punk so I am determined to make my own pair from wool roving. The gal below I found on a forum. This is kind of the idea of what I am going for.

I can buy manufactured dreads at a site called Ragdolly or I can choose from tons of colors to buy and make my own. I love the colorway below but I would do brown instead of black cause my natural hair color is brown. These are not as "messy" as I would like and pretty spendy at $80 for one. I would need two.

I think I will look at trying to make my own out of brown roving. The contrast color I want to do is peacock blue and green. I like the way these dreads look below and how they incorporate some industrial elements in to them.

Dreads seem to pop up in Steampunk more often than not.

Even for men.

Now its off to the yarn sites to price roving! Sounds like a trip to my LYN this weekend is in order too!

Apple Cup

I have been absent as I have been madly cutting out and sewing garments for the upcoming Steampunk Ball next Saturday. I have two garments completely finished and have started on the third.

I am going to take a break and go watch my Cougs beat the Huskies in the Apple Cup.

GO COUGS!!!!!!!

Getting Steamy!

So, a few months ago I discovered this little world of Steampunk and the hubs and I have been going to a regular meet up on Monday nights at a local coffee house to hang with other Steamy individuals.

In a few short weeks the Emerald City will be hosting the first annual Steampunk Exhibition Ball. I have a dilemma. Because its a ball I feel like I should wear a skirt. Not really certain I want to. I'm not a big fan of skirts. Not only that - I have no Steamy outfits put together yet. I have multiple ideas and can't pull the trigger on a one of them. So, I have been trolling google images for ideas on what to make for myself and the hubs.

I am more comfortable in pants. I had thought about doing a skirt gathered in the front to show pantaloons. But, I love the idea of wearing something most other women will not be and I'm drawn to the idea of a pant.

I saw these and decided they looked enough like pantaloons to pass for what I want. They have a costume feel to them that I like. I can make these in a wool menswear stripe as shown or in a nicer satin for a ball. Not certain if I am going to do the bustle on the back. Depends on what type of corset I decide to make.

Next up is the corset. I love this style of corset. It has the feel of a jacket and the back is long (if I choose) as a bustle. If I went with this option I might not put the bustle on the pants. Love the collar and how they are connected.

Under the corset I will have a chemise like top. I have not decided if I want short sleeves as shown or long sleeves.

If the chemise is short sleeved I want to make some cuffs. If I make the top with long sleeves I want them to go over the wrist like the cuffs shown below.

That's it for the main costume items. I am going to look for boots but I have shoes that will pass if I can't find what I want for the right price. I still need some steamy accouterments like goggles, a raygun a steamy hat and such.

The hubs has a few things at home already he can wear. He has a black pair of pants with a stripe down the leg much like tuxedo pants. Or, he also has a grey pair of wool pants that would do as well. We can get him a button down shirt, and I can make him a vest, cravat and a velvet lab coat much like the one below.

We need to find him a top hat and some steamy accouterments of his own. Spats and a walking stick would be great too. Love the steamy flask below!

Obsessions

I have been obsessing about these wonderful boots in brown leather! They are $105 in UK dollars. Yeah, that equates to $175.41 in US dollars. Ug!

I found a similar pair for only $49.99 but they only come in black and I most definitely want brown.

I like the style of this boot but would like to stick closer to $100. The boots are mainly for my Steampunk costume but I will wear them IRL as well.

Any ideas on a create place to buy a brown leather boot that won't break the bank?
